Belly of Desire

Belly of Desire follows the heart-rending story of a man whose dreams exceed the bounds of his flesh.  Instead of the common course of compromise and renunciation, Sean Eaton sets out to expand the territory of his body, to create a vessel large enough to carry his great ambition to fruition.  This is the tender and absurd story of a small man who has grown up in a world of giants.  With his Olympian ambition to topple titans, he dons his ‘mawashi’ and sets out to challenge the overlords of underground sumo.  Yet, finding himself ignored by official sumo societies and enduring the ridicule of friends, family and all sane-minded persons, Sean must forge an entirely new subculture of amateur sumo enthusiasts.  Against a world obsessed with the thin, Sean and his ungainly tribe must take a path through the darkest and seamiest catacombs of human society.  Underground sumo soon electrifies the Midwest, and little men across the Great Plains join in the pursuit of greatness.  And Sean’s tireless work to convert his largesse of spirit into largeness of body finally pays off in the opportunity of a lifetime…

Belly of Desire Reviews

“This film moved me in ways I dare not describe. I laughed, I cried… I ate a box of donuts. Scott Baehrend, the film’s auteur, is like John Waters in a diaper.” — Jeff Boortz of Concrete Pictures.

“…damn good film-making … avant-garde, yet unpretentious … Breaking Away for a twisted generation … a spectacular triumph of the human spirit over it’s animal box … the uplifting elegy of an iconoclastic genius.” — Elmo Fuddpucker of RedBrain.com
